也為個人日後的現代創作,奠定了紮實的鄉土養份。
In 1951, Yuyu Yang dropped out from Taiwan Provincial Teachers College (now the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University), and was invited by Ran In-ting (1903-1979), an established senior artist from his hometown, to work as an art editor at the magazine Harvest , which was supervised by the Sino-American Joint Commission on Rural Reconstruction. During his eleven years at the magazine, Yang visited numerous rural townships and villages throughout Taiwan, extensively studying the customs and folk lifestyle in different parts of the Island. As a result, he produced numerous works on native topics, comprising woodblock prints, sketch drawings, comics, illustrations, and graphic designs. These works were not only used as teaching material in rural education in those years, driving the growth of national power, people’s livelihood, and the economy, but also laid a solid foundation enriched with a native color for Yang’s modern creations to come.
1959 年,楊英風(右二)與現代版畫會成員,於國立臺灣藝 術館舉行「現代版畫展」。 In 1959, Yuyu Yang (second from the right) and members of the Modern Print Association held a “Modern Print Exhibition” at today’s National Taiwan Arts Education Center.
